Create a simple, colorful purse in time for spring.

This colorful beginner craft is great as a simple spring accessory. Use these techniques to create your own look or follow the instructions below to create the fruit-style purse shown.

Supplies and Tools

• Duck® Tape
• scissors
• x-acto knife

Optional Supplies and Tools:
• velcro
• button

Skill Level

Beginner

Approximate Crafting Time

45 minutes

Step 1

Start off with two pieces of White Duck Tape® fabric 10 inches by 8 inches.

Step 2

Cut these into half circles that measure 10 inches across the top and 6 1/2 inches deep (at the deepest point). An easy way to create your half circles by tracing a circle on your fabric, cutting it out, then cutting it in half through the middle.

Step 3

Lay the two halves against each other so that they overlap in the same position (this will be the body of the purse) Tear off a piece of tape the same color as your fabric (about 11 inches long), and fold it over the flat top edge of each half circle creating a clean edge. Trim the excess tape from the ends.

Step 4

Tear a strip about 12 inches long (you could need more, depending on the size) and cut it into rectangles about a centimeter in width each. Use these to tape your two half circles together.

Step 5

Cover the front and the back edges of the purse in Red Duck Tape. Make sure this border extends at least an inch into the middle of the purse. You may choose to cover the entire outside of the purse in Duck Tape, but you might waste some cutting it off.

Step 6

Draw a half circle about an inch away from the edge of your purse. Cut that inner piece out so that the White Duck Tape underneath shows through.

Step 7

Using scissors or a knife, cut three teardrop shapes out of brown Duck Tape and arrange them with the pointed side up, radiating outward from the top-center of the purse.

Step 8

Tear a strip of Red Duck Tape about 25 inches long and fold it in half lengthwise, leaving both ends open with the sticky side exposed. This will be your strap. Tape the strap into place on the inside of the purse and reinforce the connected ends with another strip of Duck Tape.

Additional Ideas

• Add self-adhering Velcro circles to the inside top of the purse.
• Try making a watermelon, lime, orange, lemon, or kiwi purse using the same technique.
• Include a button to the top of the purse to add the ability to close it shut.

your idea seems great, and cool, but I think you need a bigger shoulder strap

Cute idea. I'm not sure why you need to cover a lot of the purse in red just to cut it off again; wouldn't it be easier just to trim the edges in red? Very clear instructions. I'm just not sure what fruit has red skin and a white inside??

The white/red one is an apple and the pink/green one is a watermelon.
