How to Organize your Photos

Let’s face it: we live in a digital world. Sharing photos is as easy as posting them on sites like Snapfish, Flickr and Facebook. But, there’s still something to be said for good, old-fashioned pictures in a photo album – and the art of scrapbooking.

Thanks to digital cameras, snapping and choosing photos is a breeze. Unfortunately, many of these photos wind up stored on a computer.  Even those lucky – or important – enough to be printed, sometimes end up piling up in boxes at the back of a closet, forgotten.

Well, now is the time to gather and sort through all of your memories, and think about putting them together in a scrapbook. Scrapbooking is an art form that’s easy to approach. Crafting stores have a variety of colored/decorative papers, stamps, stickers and other embellishments that make it easy to bring your scrapbook to life. And, adhesive products, like double-stick Duck® brand Easy Stick® adhesive rollers, allow you to quickly – and cleanly – assemble photos and memorabilia on the pages.

To get started, it’s important to consider for whom you are making the scrapbook and what you’d like to focus the theme on. Here are a few themes to consider:

Scrapbooking Made Easy

Anniversaries/Birthdays

Create a book that can be updated annually with each new anniversary or birthday. Add in special notes of how you celebrated each occasion.

Families/Pets

Use the pages to showcase your family’s heritage, favorite memories and goofiest moments. Include pictures of your pets, too, especially if you have shots of funny faces, favorite hang-outs or even with their favorite toy.

Holidays

Dedicate each page or spread for a different holiday throughout the year. Don’t forget to journal your favorite memory from each celebration.

Military

Honor a member of the Armed Forces with a book dedicated to his or her service to our country. Include important announcements, news clippings and honors, in addition to photographs.

New Baby

Mark baby’s first months or year. Consider adding in baby’s hospital tags, lock of hair from his/her first haircut and other mementos from each milestone.

Vacation

From the beach to iconic places to amusement parks, pair your pictures with ticket stubs, maps, brochures and more. You can dedicate your entire book to one vacation or include several vacations to create a travel log.

Wedding

While the majority of this book should focus on the “big day,” don’t forget about other wedding traditions, like engagement photos and parties, bridal showers and other pre-wedding festivities, the rehearsal and even the honeymoon. You can include special keepsakes, like the save-the-date and invitation, program, customized napkins, the menu, etc.

Other Occasions to Consider

Scrapbooks can also be used to reminisce a school year, graduation, first year in college, new home or even be created in memory of someone who has passed on. Try to incorporate special reminders of the milestone, like a piece of artwork from school, a graduation program or obituary.
