Never lose a bag again

It’s happened to all of us. You’ve just finished a long, slightly squashed, plane ride. You’re ready to go home. And your luggage is nowhere to be found. Avoid this headache by making your own colorful and personalized duct tape luggage tag. Make it as a family, or as a gift for the traveler in your life. They’ll really appreciate the thought—and their easy-to-spot luggage.

Step 1

Gather your supplies! You'll need your favorite color(s) of duct tape (Duck® brand Duck Tape® comes in 20+ colors!) and scissors. Some optional supplies are: hole punch, rope, stickers, permanent/paint markers.

Step 2

Make a duct tape fabric that is two strips wide:

1.     Cut a strip of duct tape that measures your desired length (luggage tag can be made to any size) and lay it sticky side up on your work surface.

2.     Cut another strip of duct tape to the same length.

3.     Place the second strip sticky side up, slightly overlapping the edge of the first strip.

4.     Turn the sheet so the strips run vertically and cover with duct tape (sticky side to sticky side) – making sure to overlap the edges.

Step 3

Using a permanent marker, write your name, address and phone number on your luggage tag.

Step 4

Cut a small slit or punch a hole on one end of your luggage tag.

Step 5

Feed a piece of rope or a folded-over strip of duct tape through and attach to your luggage. To make a folded-over duct tape strip: cut two pieces of duct tape to your desired length. Lay one sticky side up on your work surface and cover with the second strip, sticky side down. Trim to desired width.

Step 6 - optional

Make your luggage tag out of brightly colored duct tape to help your bag stand out against others.

To slide a business card into your luggage tag:

1.     Make two duct tape fabrics (see step one).

2.     Cut a rectangle, measuring slightly smaller than your business card, out of one of the fabrics.

3.     Lay the fabric you’ve just cut on top of the other fabric. Seal three sides with small strips of duct tape.  Trim off excess tape.

4.     Slide your business card in and cut a small slit or punch a hole through the middle of the open side (through both fabrics).
