Keep heat in and winter out!

To insulate doors, you can use a variety of Duck® brand weatherstripping products that adhere directly to any door or window frame for a tight seal between you and the cold. Learn more with the following weatherstripping tips.

Tip 1

Replace old door bases with new, adjustable ones that can be raised or lowered to fill various floor-to-door gaps. Add a door sweep for extra insulation.

Tip 2

Estimate the measurement of the gaps around your door or window and choose the appropriate thickness of foam or rubber weatherstripping. Homeowners often choose the thickest one, and following application, find they are not able to shut their door or window.

Tip 3

When using door bottom seals, check to see which way your door opens before installation. If it opens out, put the door bottom seal on the outside of the door, and conversely, if it opens in, put the seal on the inside of your door. The seal should not drag across the threshold each time the door is opened and shut.

Tip 4

The latest innovation in seals is the EPDM Rubber Weather Seal line. It is made from the strongest weatherstrip material and won’t crack or shrink at even extremely cold temperatures.

Tip 5

The Super V Weather Seal combines the most effective material, EPDM Rubber, with the best profile, a “V” shape that fits snugly to block drafts. Other EPDM seals include acrylic latex caulk, insulating foam or rubber tapes, vinyl or rubber gasket seals, or felt strip.
