When I started this journey I had a totally different design in mind. That design didn't work at all. So here I was sitting in my chair trying to figure out what I can do with the tape I already bought. I decided my best strategy would be to go back to what I know which is sewing. From there I used my traditional sewing techniques and treated the duck tape like it was vinyl. I thought decorating the outfit with roses would be fun because I live in the City of Roses and since I can't go to the rose gardens I might as well recreate them on my dress. The main driving force that made this dress possible was my background as a seamstress because it allowed me to have the tools and techniques to achieve the look I was going for

I wanted to make something that would be true to me. My inspiration was for the design of the dress and the idea to put flowers and butterflies on it, came from fairy tale characters from my childhood. The colors were a mix of some of my favorite colors and patterns.

My inspiration for this outfit came from all the things I appreciate. I chose to make roses because my best friend's middle name is Rose, and she encouraged me to enter the contest. I chose to make the sun yellow because the color reminds me of my mom, and the butterflies were inspired by my art teacher, who is leaving my school next year and who has supported me and taught me so much this year. The roots of the trees are reminiscent of the snowy mountains near Santa Fe, NM, where I live, and all the other details have similar backstories. The leaves on the trees are heart shaped because of my gratitude for these people, places, and things in my life.

When asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, at the age of 8, I said a fashion designer. I had already started sketching dresses and outfits then. And while over the years my designs have turned more towards Anime, cosplay, and fantasy I still want to design. My inspiration has come from the thousands of sketches and ideas I have had over the years. Between the large and small feathers I hand cut almost 1000 feathers. Since the inspiration came from my own designs from over the years when I had to change my original design in the middle of making it these changes were easier to make by just drawing on some of my other designs.

The inspiration for this outfit was learning about the celebration of Dia de los Muertos and other Hispanic traditions through four years of Spanish in high school. I was also inspired by a face mask that my godmother had made for me during quarantine.

I went to the fridge and pulled out a can of my favorite beverage, Arizona Green Tea with Ginseng and Honey. As I drank it, I couldn't help but notice the beauty of the label. It honestly stuck with me the entire time I was creating the dress.

I love the color blue and I love to draw flowers. I added the two to make this combination of a winter dress. It is somewhat dedicated to Elsa's dress from Frozen just because I love her dress so much but, it is also supposed to be a winter garden dress. I enjoyed making the dress so much and had such a great overall experience with the Duct Tape Scholarship.

I was inspired by nature to make my jungle tux. I tried to enhance the beauty of the jungle environment. The jungle is home to countless animals and competition is fierce. Animals in this environment constantly compete with each other to survive. Survival of the fittest is in play year-round and the animals must have their heads on a swivel at all times. I tried to portray glimpses of animals from areas around the world such as a lion, the king of the jungle. Also, I added animal print and leaves to enhance the jungle beauty.

When I was younger my parents always said to search for the deeper meaning of everything so I could understand the hidden truths and the true meaning of things. Since then I've always strived to incorporate a deeper meaning into everything. This Suits deep meaning lies in the roses. Roses are America's national flower.Since it is during the Covid-19 pandemic This suit symbolizes that how similar to a rose after a harsh winter America and the world too will recover from Covid-19. This Tux is also meant to thank all those who are staying home, or working to protect Everyone from this pandemic. So to all who are doing their part, whatever it is no matter how big or how small, Thank you.

The inspiration for my dress was simply my dream prom dress. Since my school has quite a strict dress code about what you can and cannot wear to prom, I chose to create a look inspired by what my dress code free gown would look like. It was decorated using some of my favorite things: roses and holographic patters! I chose to use a white base for the dress because I loved the way it contrasted with the holographic roses that I used to adorn the ensemble with. Although I did not get to wear any dress to prom this year, I am truly proud of the outfit I created and would definitely wear it if it were in dress code!

The inspiration for this dress in both color pallet and general design loosely comes from the Milk snake as well as other reptilian creatures. The shape of this dress comes from the French couture designs of the 1950’s. I also tried to incorporate 1940’s Hollywood aspects in the dress due to the fact that I adore the women of this era for their tenacity in the face of oppression. That is also part of the reason why I picked a snake for the center piece for this dress. Like these women, snakes are cunning and strong while being able to maintain a sleekness and elegance.

“Quaran’teen’ Queen!” was inspired by the historical event impacting myself and my class of 2020 peers. Social distancing requirements impacted multiple memorous activities like my 18th bithday, graduation ceremony and the senior prom. This scholarship opportunity gave me a chance to participate in a tradition that celebrates achievement and passage into adulthood. The Stuck on Prom contest was the perfect way for me to have a piece of the experience while potentially gaining funds to cover the cost of my UC college education. Quaranteen Queen exhibits the importance of following pandemic protocols while confidently remembering the importance of stopping traffic to smell the roses and spending time with the people you hold close to your heart.

My love of fairytales is my inspiration. Particularly a rebel princess, one who is tired of puffy dresses and expectations. I chose a birdcage skirt because princesses are always traped in some way. Plus, I grew up around birds and I thought it would be fun and symbolic to make. Roses simply because they are fierce as well as beautifully iconic.

Inspiration:
This dress design was inspired by a RuPaul Charles gown with red roses flowing down the front of it. I wanted this dress to give me as much confidence as any drag queen taking the stage. I decided that I wanted my flowers to represent the full rainbow of colors and opted for a circle skirt instead of a mermaid silhouette to suit my personality more effectively. My favorite parts are the 1700” of ruffles around the bottom and the metal eyelets on the sleeve - they combine to show both the softness of a ballgown and the resilience of my spirit in these current times.
My mom and I started working on designs for this dress early in my senior year. We scrolled through gowns for inspiration that would most effectively represent the entirety of my school experience as I got ready to graduate. My name is Liberty because I was born in July right after the attacks of 9/11. Now, I was getting ready to graduate in June of 2020. Which, unfortunately, turned into a year where I was not able to attend my prom, or my awards night, or even my graduation. I’ve tried to keep a positive attitude even through these difficult times through this - and many other - creative projects.

The main inspiration for this piece is Mardi Gras outfits and masquerade costumes. The design is based off of a mixture of 17th-century hoop skirts and medieval corsets and vestry. With so much historic design, I used a bit of modern appeal by making the dress with glow-in-the-dark elements, since I love to play with lighting. I've always wanted to make something a little crazy, and this seemed like the best place.

I really love the 50s and 60s, so I knew that I wanted to do an A-line dress similar to those of that time. I also made duct tape flowers when I was younger and thought it would be cool to relearn how to make then for this dress.
