I really love stingrays, so when I decided to make a duct tape dress I attempted to create one inspired by stingrays.

My inspiration for making this dress was to inspire others to be creative and to make something they may have never thought of making before. With the blooming of spring what a perfect time to showcase this beautiful season with incorporating it into my dress.

My inspiration for my Duck Tape prom outfit was to use the galaxy tape to create a colorful, magical, and interdimensional attire that would make me feel like an extraterrestrial being, attending a prom from out of this world.

I’ve always wanted to feel like a princess at my prom and since I wasn’t able to have one I though this was the next best thing. Feeling like a Disney princess with the vibrant colours and the homage to bell and Snow White was amazing.

The inspiration for my outfit was my love for choker styled necklaces and the color blue. I feel that this dress shows my elegant and outgoing features. I feel that my dress is elegant because of it's mermaid style and bejeweled foundation. I feel that my dress is also outgoing because of it's unique color and style variation.

I wanted to do something revolutionary, something that hasn't been done before! My dress is focused on a new age that is not defined by who wears what, and not defined by gender! I was inspired by a dress Marilyn Monroe wore in 1962 when she sang for president Kennedy, the dress she wore fit her so well it had to be sewn on to her body! I loved the idea of a piece of clothing that fit so well to my body shape. My dress is more than clothing, I consider it a piece of art that I put myself into.

During this period of isolation in a pandemic, I miss the simple pleasures life had to offer such as being able to hug my friends with no worries. At this point in the year my friends and I planned on going to the beach to celebrate as graduates. Despite the slow reopening of establishments and beaches already opened, we felt that it is best to prioritize the safety of ourselves and our families from this virus. My inspiration for this duct tape prom dress was this beach trip because I miss my friends and the salty ocean.

I've been designing dresses since I could hold a pencil. For the Stuck at Prom Scholarship Contest, I combined two designs I made for a fashion class I took; both of which were ideas for my future prom dress. However, I couldn’t decide which dress I wanted to wear more. What better than to combine them? I used the key elements of the ruffles from one design, and the false-front corset from the other. I also created all the patterns for the dress myself. For my colour scheme, I chose a classic princess pink, popping white roses, and a shiny gold to create a regal, yet fun look! I enjoyed every second of bringing my vision to life by creating my 100% duct tape prom dress. I am forever grateful for being given this opportunity. Thank you, Duck Brand!

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. The design of my dress symbolizes my optimism for the upcoming summer season. Instead being discouraged, I attempted to put my free time to good use by making a duct tape dress! I wanted to embellish my dress with a simplistic lemon design in anticipation for the brighter days to come. Ultimately, I think this project was a great experience that taught me patience, organization, and problem-solving skills!

Drawing inspiration from youthful Hollywood costume designs and modern fashion trends, I patterned and cut my dress with an innovative and fun style. My two piece design includes a high-low skirt and a crossover top. I created an elegant floral design around the hem of the skirt that I continued through the top. I styled my accessories to complement the color scheme of my dress. I enjoyed turning this unconventional material into something beautiful to inspire others.

I have always loved flowers. Flowers are the most beautiful thing in the world. What really fascinated me is that each flower is unique and I tried to show that in my dress, I tried to show all the little details that flowers have. Also, spring is my favorite season. My mom has told me that red looks good on me so that is the reason why I chose to use red in my dress.

The colors were inspired by everyone's favorite Marvel superhero, Spiderman. The general style was partially inspired by the flappers of the 1920s and partially by the cosplayers I see at the Norman Medieval Faire, and my own medieval outfit found at said Faire.

Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of dressing up and going to prom. Once the time finally came, Covid-19 canceled my senior prom. Despite my saddened heart, I decided not to let Covid-19 completely ruin it. Before the cancellation of prom, I searched for a dress. I came across a pink high-low dress with a flower pattern and I absolutely fell in love with it. I love the design of high-low dresses because they give you a ball gown effect with a twist. I designed my dress based on that, but I decided to change up the colors a bit. I also decided to add detail by creating a ruffled top, followed by a weaved design for the torso. I included a belt with a golden bow and small ruffles in the shape of triangles. For the skirt of my dress I decided to keep the ruffles alive to enhance detail. I then created gold flower designs. Lastly I used my flower patterned duct tape on the inside of my dress for more detail. I had so much fun making my dress and accessories. This challenge not only makes up for losing prom, but it allows you to be creative and have a great time while creating your very own dream prom dress!

Throughout high school, I ran cross country. Every time I ran, I took notice to the gorgeous Longleaf Pine Trees that stand tall in my area. Taking inspiration from the pine trees, I crafted this dress. The gold details represent pine straw, and the green tape mirrors the lush green trees.

As a gay man in a small town, I was not able to really dress flamboyantly and extravagant at my own prom. I wanted to create a tux that was the most me it could be, my sorta "dream" prom outfit if I did not have so many inhibitions at my own. The flower and staff are two parts of me (my flower tattoo and my bow staff training). A close friend of mine wore a hat similar to that at my own prom, and it inspired me to create one alike to it. Although quite hot, the suit is much more comfortable than I would have expected. The timing of it all was a bit hard to keep track of, but I believe it took me around 98 hours in total including measuring and prep, and 22 rolls of tape.
