For this project, I decided to do something inspired by Back to the Future. I love science fiction and plan on doing something science related in college. In the second movie, the protagonist travels thirty years into the future and is struck by how different the changes are. I think thirty years from now, clothes will be more androgynous. That’s why my tuxedo is cropped, has duct tape flowers on it, and my cape is separated like butterfly wings. I want my tuxedo to be off-putting and interesting to look at and be a futuristic representation of a tuxedo. I love creating and learning and thought that even though I am not a sculptor or a fabric designer, this would take me out of my comfort zone and force me to figure things out along the way. Thank you for taking the time to read my essay.

Inspiration:
Stargazing is the inspiration for my prom dress. The beauty of nature helps put everything into perspective for me. This March, there was a spectacular “planetary parade” in the night sky. The moon and multiple planets were visible, including Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter. In designing my dress, I used white duct tape to represent the moon and multicolor shimmer craft tape to represent the planets, comets and shooting stars.
As a child, I enjoyed making many creations out of duct tape. I also loved drawing and painting beautiful dresses. So I was excited when I read about this contest that allowed me to design and make a prom dress and accessories out of duct tape.

Inspiration:
I’ve been making dresses since I was a kid with pieces of cloth and staples. So, if I could sort of do that, I knew I could make a dress out of Duck tape! My High School’s prom was on Earth Day. This inspired me to make my dress look like Mother Nature and Mother Earth. I used the tape to form flowers and vines that made my dress natural and divine!

Inspiration:
I love rainbows so I used that inspiration in my dress. To make the dress, I used copy paper as the base then taped and cut it together to be the length I wanted. I then covered the paper template/ base with black duct tape and added the rainbows on top. For the thicker rainbows i didn't need to make any cuts but for the smaller rainbows, I used a crafting knife and cut the thick pieces of duct tape in to thinner strips
