This year I wanted to create a dress inspired by culture. The idea from my dress is taken from different aspects of mexico. The flowy shape of my dress resembles that of the folklorico dresses from Jalisco, with influence from the Chiapaneca dresses. Along the skirt of my dress I decorated it with lace and papel picado. In Mexico, papel picado is used during times of celebration, and the radiating colors always create a happy atmosphere. The design on the bodice of my dress was inspired by mexican embroidery, with all the individual pieces cut and glued on. I also created off the shoulder rose straps to bring more elegance to the dress. I created this to pay homage to all of my family that has worked hard to create a life in the United states, and this dress serves as a reminder of the beautiful country from which they came.
